Ni MH Batteries

Characteristics of NiMh batteries

Nimh batteries are widely used as rechargeable batteries in the world of radio control and aeromodelling. They take their name from the composition of their materials, in this case Nickel Metal Hydride ( NiMH ), and are the evolution of old NiCd batteries.

NiMh batteries have a very good balance between economy and performance, and are stable and ideal for RTR models. They are perfect for initiation radio control models, and in Factorhobby we offer you many models of NIMH batteries to choose the one that best suits your needs.

How is a Ni-mh battery?

Understanding the operation of Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries is essential for the radio control enthusiast to preserve and keep their batteries in optimum condition.

A battery consists of a set of individual elements (or cells) connected in series, each of which has a rated voltage, in the charged state, of 1.2 V. In the market, Between 50 mAh and 3300 mAh. A 1000 mAh battery is capable of delivering a current of 1000 mA (1A) for one hour, or 10 A for 1/10 of an hour, etc.

Charging and discharging Nimh batteries

A battery should be avoided at its maximum and after that point continue to supply power, as it can cause the heat in the battery to trip, deteriorating or even destroying it. There are battery chargers that detect the maximum charge moment, because at that point a peak is observed in the voltage (increases to a maximum and then decreases), interrupting the charging process at that moment. These chargers allow a relatively fast charging process with 1C currents for NiMH, where C is the capacity of the battery. An RC-2000 battery (capacity 2Ah) can be charged at 3C = 6A, without deterioration if the charging process is interrupted once maximum capacity is reached.

Advantages of NiMh batteries

These batteries have fundamental advantages over their predecessors NiCd (Nickel-Cadmium) batteries, as NiMH batteries have a higher charge density (capacity / weight higher , About 40% -70% more capacity) and do not contain cadmium, toxic element. Cheap Ni-Mh batteries for radio control models (cars, helicopters, boats ...). Choose from different types and sizes to get the most out of your RC model. Nickel metal hydride NiMh batteries are characterized by a good relationship between power and price, and for being a stable batteries and ideal for RTR models. At Factorhobby we offer you many models of NIMH batteries, choose the one that best fits your needs!
